Here at the Mobile Music School, we love creating music resources for primary schools. Further, one of our most popular resources are song ideas for the classroom. As we enter into the summer months and the weather is improving, now is the ideal time to learn some summer-themed songs. Whether for a bit of fun in the classroom or for an end-of-year performance, these summer hits will go down a treat with students. Ukulele and percussion instruments can also be incorporated into performances of these songs.

Music Resources for Primary Schools: Summer Songs for Schools

Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles

This Beatles classic is a great introduction for students to the band’s music. The melody is catchy and repetitive so will be easily learned. Learning this song can be a cross-curricular activity as you teach the students about the history of the Beatles and pop music. This song is most suitable for 5th and 6th class.

Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun

This is a fun, simple song for infant classes. You can incorporate some actions to go with the lyrics. Further, students can discuss different types of weather and the seasons of the year while learning this piece, making it cross-curricular with geography and science.

Walkin’ on Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves

5th and 6th class will love this upbeat and catchy summer classic. Students can choreograph dance moves or actions to perform with the song. If there are students in the class who play any instruments, perhaps these can be incorporated too.
