TY Workshops- Our Bodhrán Workshops and what they consist of

We wanted to include this iconic Irish instrument in our TY workshops and music in secondary schools programmes. During these TY workshops, each group will receive one 80 minute, hands on percussion session. Each student will have their own bodhrán. These sessions are full of fun and energetic activities. These activities ensure that every student is engaged and interested throughout. Further, these fun, energetic activities always ensure a joyful atmosphere in our bodhrán workshops for secondary schools. Our music tutors always ensure that each music session is interactive and engaging. Each tutor creates an environment that is relaxing and open for every student to express themselves.

Each group will cover a wide range of material, including extensive ear training and instrument technique. Some other basic music notation will be covered, including minims, crotchets, quavers and semi-quavers and their associated rests. The students will also cover the role of the composer and experiment with creating different rhythms. Following this, the students will perform as an ensemble.

Our Workshops in Maynooth Post Primary

Music tutor Niall has been delivering a four week bodhrán programme in Maynooth Post Primary this January.  During each workshop, students have been developing the ability to read music notation, create rhythms and patterns of their own; and likewise, take on brand new challenges as a group. Further, they have managed to cover a wide range of material, including extensive ear training and instrument technique. Some other basic music notation includes minims, crotchets, quavers and semi-quavers and their associated rests. Each student has their own bodhrán, and learned brand new techniques with Niall. Niall has really enjoyed working with the groups each week!

What measures did we take against Covid?

To protect staff and students against Covid 19 we:

  • Equipped Niall with a face mask and visor
  • Niall also undertook a Covid safety training course
  • We ensured each piece of equipment was thoroughly disinfected after each use
  • Niall ensured that there was adequate social distancing during the workshop
