Here at the Mobile Music School, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality transition year workshops. Our ‘Let’s Drum’ workshops prove to be of our most popular transition year workshops every year. Each year, we travel nationwide with our series of workshops, delivering engaging and interactive content across all age groups.  This year, we were delighted to deliver a series of  80 minute drumming workshops in Gonzaga College. These workshops spanned across October, November and March. Mobile Music School tutor, and general manager, Shay led the workshops, with the transition year students of Gonzaga College.

‘Let’s Drum’ – Drumming Workshops for Transition Year

Each transition year workshop consists of an 80 minute, hands-on drumming workshop. These workshops are explosive: full of fun and energetic activities! Following our ethos of allowing students to learn without realising they are learning, the content of these workshops ensure that every student is engaged and interested throughout. Further, there is always an electric atmosphere in our drumming workshops! Our music tutors always ensure that each music session is exciting, interactive and engaging. Each tutor creates an environment that is relaxing and open for every student to express themselves.

Our Transition Year Workshops in Gonzaga College

The students in Gonzaga college had 3 separate workshops with Shay. In each workshop, students developed the ability to read music notation, create rhythms and patterns of their own; and likewise, take on brand new challenges as a group. Further, they managed to cover a wide range of material, including extensive ear training and instrument technique. Some other basic music notation included minims, crotchets, quavers and semi-quavers and their associated rests The students really impressed Shay with their progression and levels of engagement.  As a result, they picked up their brand new percussion skills very quickly! The students of Gonzaga College certainly proved that groups do not need any prior drumming experience for our drumming workshops. It amazes us in each workshop that we deliver how well groups who have had little or no musical experience progress- and the students of Gonzaga College were no exception!

Performance

Each drumming workshop was a tremendous success! Each session culminated in the performance of a piece of percussion music, which combined everything the group had previously learnt together. These elements included technique, listening skills, counting, instrumentation, rhythms of the world, the beat and dynamic control. The energy and enthusiasm from the students made each performance all the more special. The students did a fantastic job, and Shay was really impressed with how engaged the group were, and how well they performed! Above all, the students remarked that they got a lot out of the workshops, and really enjoyed themselves, which is always our main goal!
