Our fiddle lessons in Gaelscoil Aonghusa are showing great progress this year. 2017/18 has seen us returning to the school for another year of this fun-filled, Classroom Music programme.

Fiddle Lessons in Gaelscoil Aonghusa

The students of Gaelscoil Aonghusa are having great fun with their music lessons this year. The small class sizes mean that the students are learning a lot and have plenty of one on one interaction with the teacher. This approach to learning adds hugely to their technical development.

In the run up to Christmas, our first and second class musicians learned ‘Mo Ghile Mear’ with Mobile Music tutor Siún. Although perfecting songs like this on the fiddle aren’t always easy, the students showed great dedication by continuing to practise at home. With their hard work and the help of Siún encouraging them week-on-week, our fiddle classes were then able to move on to more challenging tunes. With this emphasis on practise, second class students were confident enough to learn songs such as ‘The Leg on the Duck’.

Our fifth class fiddle lessons focused on a Denis Murphy tune and The Little Banshee‘, which were also challenging but sounded great when completed.

Fiddle in the Classroom

This classroom-based instrumental course enables schools to offer students a weekly violin lesson overseen by a qualified fiddle teacher.

Pupils are immediately immersed into the music-making process. We encourage classes to work in a group environment that radically develops their musical awareness, self-esteem and confidence as musicians and creative thinkers.

During classes students learn how to read notation and perform as part of an ensemble. They also perform different genres of music from all corners of the world.

Fiddle in the Classroom gives students a sense of achievement by developing their technical and musical abilities as violinists. This programme also enables schools to form a school orchestra…. if they wish!
