Here at the Mobile Music School, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality TY workshops. Our ‘Let’s Drum’ workshops prove to be of our most popular TY workshops every year. Each year, we travel nationwide with our series of workshops, delivering engaging and interactive content across all age groups.  This December, we were delighted to be asked to deliver three 80 minute drumming workshops in Inver College in Monaghan. MMS tutor Niall led the workshops-equipped with a face mask and visor!-, with the transition year students of Inver College.

‘Let’s Drum’ – TY Workshops

Our Let’s Drum workshops are our most popular TY workshops. These workshops are explosive: full of fun and energetic activities! Following our ethos of allowing students to learn without realising they are learning, the content of these workshops ensure that every student is engaged and interested throughout. Further, there is always an electric atmosphere in our drumming workshops! Our music tutors always ensure that each music session is exciting, interactive and engaging. Each tutor creates an environment that is relaxing and open for every student to express themselves.

Our workshops in Inver College

Music tutor Niall led the sessions on the 17th December in Inver College. During the workshop, students developed the ability to read music notation, create rhythms and patterns of their own; and likewise, take on brand new challenges as a group. Further, they managed to cover a wide range of material, including extensive ear training and instrument technique. Some other basic music notation included minims, crotchets, quavers and semi-quavers and their associated rests. Niall commented that the workshops went very well, and the students did a great job!

Performance

The drumming workshops went extremely well! The 80 minute sessions all culminated in the performance of a piece of percussion music, which combined everything the group had previously learnt together. These elements included technique, listening skills, counting, instrumentation, rhythms of the world, the beat and dynamic control. Further, the energy and enthusiasm from the students made each performance all the more special.  Above all, the students really enjoyed themselves, which is always our main goal!

What measures did we take against Covid?

To protect staff and students against Covid 19 we:

  • Equipped Niall with a face mask and visor
  • Niall also undertook a Covid safety training course
  • We ensured each piece of equipment was thoroughly disinfected after each use
  • Niall ensured that there was adequate social distancing during the workshop
