With the school year 22/23 coming to a close, we wanted to recap all the amazing music for schools programmes and workshops we delivered! We had a blast delivering music for schools nationwide throughout the year, and we are extremely grateful to each and every school that we delivered our workshops and programmes in. Further, we’re extremely grateful to all of our amazing tutors, who worked so hard this year. We had a really busy year, full of great moments! Considering this, read on below for our highlights of the year!

Music for Schools: Our 22/23 Highlights

Schools visited:

We had a bumper year this year, and as a result, we worked in 114 schools, across 23 counties. We also delivered 29 programmes, and 130 workshop days. Further, we also delivered workshops and live music performances workshops in 18 libraries and events! We were delighted to be kept so busy, and we’re extremely grateful to every school who worked with us over the year!

Seachtain na Gaeilge:

This year, we delivered our annual Seachtain na Gaeilge workshops for schools, from March 1st to March 16th. Seachtain na Gaeilge is always our busiest time of year, and we had a blast delivering our workshops and programme as Gaeilge nationwide!

New Tutors:

This year, we welcomed new tutors Ian Kinsella, Jack Hussey and Jacqui Whelan to our team! They’ve been a great addition to our team, and we’ve been blessed to have them on board with us!

Live Music Performance Workshops:

We also developed some brand new Live Music Performance workshops as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge. Two of our exceptionally talented musicians from the Orchestra played traditional Irish Music on instruments in the gaelscoilanna. Further, the musicians explained all about their instruments to the children, who were absolutely delighted! We named these workshops ‘Trad Sessions’, and the children learnt so much about traditional Irish music!

Further, we also had the privilege of providing the band for Coláiste Ghlór na Mara, as they put on their school musical. We had a blast playing for the shows, and we’re looking forward to playing for even more school musicals next year!

Our ASD Unit Workshops

This year, we developed music workshops for special schools and ASD Units, as well as music workshops for July Provision in schools. We’ve loved delivering these workshops, and we always aim to expand our workshops and programmes, to be more inclusive for all different types of classrooms!

Cruinniú na nÓg

This year, on June 10th, we delivered our Let’s Explore and our Drumming Workshops nationwide, to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg. Cruinniú na nÓg is a day of free creativity for young people. Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18.

The PLAYground Orchestra Project made a comeback

Our PLAYGROUND orchestra project was back this year! This project is a hugely successful music project for primary schools. The PLAYground Orchestra programme has been a huge hit across Dublin 15. Further, this project stresses the importance of primary school music, and exposure to classical musical for children. This programme saw us bring a 29 piece orchestra plus a singer and a conductor to twelve schools in Dublin 15. In addition, this project was run in association with our projects partners, Draíocht. Delivering two live performances a day across eight schools in Dublin 15, and three extra performances in the Draíocht, we were delighted to be back with the Orchestra!
