Q1 When did you start learning a musical instrument?
I’ve been singing from a very young age. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, but I joined the choir in my school when I was about 6 or 7. From there, I began taking part in musicals, and I kept this up throughout my childhood. I went on to study music in college, and take part in solo singing rather than as a group. Singing has always been a very big part of my life.
Q2 What did you like most about music when you were younger?
I loved the opportunity to be creative. I found being involved in music projects, I would be so engrossed in what I was doing that I would completely lose all track of time, even as a young child. I think it’s really important for all children to have a creative outlet, and that’s what music was for me.
Q3 What prompted you to turn your hobby as a child into your profession?
I always wanted to work in an area that I was passionate about, so music seemed to be the obvious choice for me. I studied music in college, and began teaching then.
Q4 What motivates you to teach?
I love to help students realize their full potential, and to help them to bring out talents that they didn’t realize they had. I think building confidence in people, particularly in children, is so important, and music is a great way to do that. I love the excitement in the classroom when children are enjoying the classes, I find you get a real buzz from it.
Q5 What do you like most about working with the Mobile Music School?
I really like working with all different types of people. From my role as Projects Co-Ordinator, and my teaching work, I get to meet many different types of people regularly, and no two days are the same.
