With so many music teachers out there at the minute, it can be hard to know who to go to for music lessons. The list below details five really important traits of a great teacher. All of our fabulous music tutors posses these traits, and it’s important to make sure your music teacher does too!
-
Passion for teaching
It is easy to tell when a teacher is passionate about teaching. Teachers who are passionate about the subject they are teaching tend to put more time, energy and passion into their teaching. Their infectious energy for the subject and also rub off on students and motivate them to learn.
-
Organizational skills.Organized teachers will have an organized way of teaching and this rubs off on the students. A teacher who has an organized, well prepared lesson tends to be much more successful than teachers that do not. It is very obvious to students when a teacher is unprepared and unorganized, which can be very off putting for students.
-
Ability to understand students.
Each student is individual, and we all learn in different ways. With something as complex as music, students will have different interests, learning styles and ideas. Good music teachers will get to know each student on a personal level. They will understand each students style of learning, favorite genre of music, and strengths and weaknesses.
-
Expertise.Good music teachers generally tend to be good musicians. They use their expertise to show students how to correctly play their instruments, how the song or piece should sound, and act as a demonstration of what can happen when you put the work in. Someone who is not a good musician will not have the knowledge or expertise to pass on to students.
-
Creativity.Teachers who are creative and think outside the box generally tend to plan more interesting, exciting lessons. All our lessons are interactive and fun-filled, and we have found that creative, fun lessons tend to engage students more, and motivate them to learn.
