Our team here at the Mobile Music School are always looking for new and fun ways of delivering music education to schools throughout Ireland. This musical theatre workshop recreates a ‘slice’ of a well-known musical through singing, movement and drama.

Mobile Music tutor, Katie, delivered an energy-filled ‘Musical Slice’ workshop to the students of Lucan ETNS just before the Easter break. Everyone had a ball working on “Matilda the Musical” by taking slices out of the original and making it their own.

The class groups started off with some drama games to warm up and to get into character. After some fun-based ‘ice-breaker’ activities, they then moved onto working on a bit of drama and improvisation before finishing up with the song “When I Grow Up”.

With this creative workshop, the students got a chance to explore musical theatre through fun games and activities. Katie gave each pupil a specific part and set of responsibilities to help recreate the musical slice.

To culminate the workshop, the groups had a mini performance at the end of each session, which consisted of all the material learned throughout the day.
