Here at the Mobile Music School, our workshops for schools keep us busy for the whole year! Usually, our music workshops for schools are once-off. However, sometimes schools may book our workshops for more than one day. This June, we’ll be offering a nine day series of workshops in Sacred Heart School, in Sruleen. We are offering Let’s Drum, Learn and Explore and Let’s Sing to the children of Sacred Heart School, and we’re really looking forward to it!
Workshops for Schools: How Will This Programme Work?
There are nine days in total, and each day, there will be 6×45 minute workshops taking place. There will be three days of Let’s Drum, three days of Let’s Sing, and three days of Learn and Explore. Each class will get to experience each workshop, and it’s a great way for the children to get to try all different types of workshops. There will be one day of each workshop per week. MMS tutor Karen will be taking the Learn and Explore, Lorna will be taking Let’s Sing, and Niall will be taking Let’s Drum.
Let’s Drum
Through games, activities and performing, our drumming workshops allow pupils to explore the percussion family, develop their understanding of rhythm, improve their rhythmical ability and perform as part of a drumming ensemble. Our drumming sessions incorporate station learning and ensure that each child gets an opportunity to play different instruments. Our drumming workshops culminate in a live end-of-workshop performance that combines the different rhythms and activities covered during the sessions.
Let’s Sing
One of our most popular music workshops for primary schools, ‘Let’s Sing’ is an excellent way of encouraging and improving each child’s singing abilities.
Our singing workshops explore the voice through games and activities, investigate the importance of breathing and posture and develop each pupil’s aural awareness. During the workshop the children learn a song with the session culminating with a performance of the song learnt.
Learn and Explore
Let’s Explore introduces children to the world of music through exploring the role of the conductor; investigating the importance of percussion; learning about dynamics, tempo, mood, the beat and rhythm; singing songs, composing rhythms and learning about music from different parts of the world. These music workshops for schools give children a foundation for learning the elements of music.
