Our popular ‘Percussion in the Classroom’ programme recommenced in Holy Trinity SNS, Donaghmede, this term on September 30th. It was great to meet the new fifth class pupils and to catch up with all the pupils who are now in sixth class.
Although the fifth class groups are new to ‘Percussion in the Classroom’, they are very attentive and are working hard. So far we have learnt about the snare drum, the marching band, the beat, as well as rhythm including ti-ti and ta. We’ve also had lots of fun with call and response, and have begun working on the song– “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers.
Sixth class are settling back in nicely and we have been working hard on our compositional skills using the Djembe and syncopated rhythms, which are sounding great. The sixth class groups have also learnt “Ho Hey”.
Next term will see all classes learn some classroom percussion music using music notation, as well as learning the song “Wagon Wheel” and a few Christmas favourites.
