The Mobile Music School has returned to Gaelscoil an Bhradáin Feasa this year and is spending a 15-week block with second, fourth, fifth and sixth class.
We have been teaching the pupils of Gaelscoil an Bhradáin Feasa since 2012 and it was reassuring to hear all of the knowledge, information and skills they retained over the summer. Suffice to say that each class group is absolutely flying!
This term there is a strong emphasis on reading notation, sight reading, music theory and aural awareness. Encompassing many elements from our short-term music for schools and our once-off drumming workshops for schools, this ‘Music in the Classroom’ programme carefully intertwines the three core elements of the primary school music curriculum.
To date all classes have learned one piece of percussion music and are developing their timing, ability to play at the correct dynamic (volume) and ability to perform as part of a percussion ensemble.
Based on the musical knowledge and ability on display in Gaelscoil an Bhradain Feasa, it’s fair to say that the future for music in Ireland is looking good.
