Mobile Music tutor Joanne McCabe has recently finished up a 6-week ‘Let’s Sing’ programme with the wonderful students in Gorey Educate Together.
Encompassing elements from our once-off singing workshops for schools, these creative singing lessons encouraged students to explore their voice through set activities and songs. With each session, pupils practiced breathing exercises and voice control/ projection. As they explored pitch and diction, students were then able to develop harmonies as a group.
To culminate the ‘Let’s Sing’ programme each class performed one big song, as well as a few smaller pieces. Week 6 was all about polishing previous learning with dynamics and expression.
During her time in Gorey ETNS, Joanne also helped to teach students songs from Sing Out Loud – an initiative that Wexford schools can partake in to get students on the stage of the National Opera House. This included Disney Medleys, ‘Don’t Stop Me Know’ and lots of other fun pop songs. The older groups particularly loved getting to create some body beats to go with their song – ‘It’s Time’.
