Our music students in Garranbane NS are off to a flying start! Mobile Music tutor Cathy has just begun a six-week ‘Learn & Explore’ programme with the primary school pupils, and they have been fully immersed in the music-making process from week 1.

‘Learn & Explore’ Music Programme for Primary Schools

These interactive, fun and activity-based classes aim to enhance each child’s musical awareness and aim to give each child a firm musical foundation. This music course culminates in a classroom performance of the songs and percussion music learned during the programme.

Week 1 in Garranbane NS

During music classes, students discover that music tells a story. Our pupils in Garranbane NS began exploring Granuaile (Ripples in the Rockpools), a set of songs based on the life and adventures of the legendary Grace O Malley. Their music classes also consisted of learning about composer Shaun Davey, a musician who uses traditional Irish instruments when playing Ripples in the Rockpools.

The students had great fun exploring the sounds of the uileann pipes and the harp. As part of their ‘Learn & Explore’ music programme, pupils are also encouraged to explore the mood and the tempo of the piece. As the course continues, students’ musicality and aural awareness will continue to improve week-on-week.
