Our musical theatre workshops were a huge hit this summer! During July, the Mobile Music School visited Maynooth Library to deliver ‘A Musical Slice’. Working with Kildare County Council, we were delighted to organise a fun-filled, interactive music workshop for the children in Maynooth.

‘A Musical Slice’

This musical theatre workshop recreates a ‘slice’ of a well-known musical through singing, movement and drama. Our workshops aim to boost students’ self-esteem and confidence in performing, while developing their creativity and showmanship in a relaxed, open environment.

Fun-based Musical Theatre Games

Mobile Music tutor Filipa commenced the workshop with some fun-based ‘ice-breaker’ activities, basic vocal warm-ups and improvisation before moving onto learning the ‘mini musical’. During these workshops, each child was given a specific part and set of responsibilities to help recreate the musical slice. The children were also given the opportunity to experiment with musical theatre, and are encouraged to express their own ideas about how to put a new spin on their ‘mini musical’.

Posture, Projection, Performance

Throughout the music session, the group learned all about presence on stage, breathing and posture whilst singing, and voice projection. The workshop finished up with an energetic end-of-session performance. The children had a ball showing off their new musical skills and performing their ‘mini musical’ with confidence.
