With Seachtain Na Gaeilge taking place in the run up to the Easter Break, Rebecca decided to touch on some Irish Polkas with the class.

As a group, the class discussed the difference between a violin and fiddle. They first used body percussion to accompany Johns Ryan’s Polka and, when the students were feeling confident, they played the accompaniment on the violin. The students had great fun with this upbeat, lively polka and there was a great sense of achievement after the classes completed a full performance.

The 4th, 5th and 6th class groups performed at RALENT’s Got Talent. The students sang the verses of “Yellow Submarine” and played the chorus on the violin. The whole audience joined in and sang along – the atmosphere was amazing! They also did a fantastic job of all the other pieces including a jazz piece, a French folk song and Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”.

Rebecca, the teachers and the parents were so impressed by their performance. A big congrats to the students for all their hard work – it really shone through!
