Our new tin whistle and recorder tutor, Darren Hatch, has gotten off to a flying start this year with our ‘Tin Whistle in the Classroom’ programme in Lucan Educate Together, which commenced on September 11th.

This term Darren is teaching first, second and third class. Lessons first commenced with a range of clapping games; each class is centred around learning all about the beat and rhythm, and focusing in on general aural awareness to get a basic understanding of the music.

Darren also places a great emphasis on breathing control. The students are learning how to make the nicest and smoothest sounds with their tin whistle through their new breathing control technique.

As well as this, the students have been learning their first tunes such as “Mary Had a Little Lamb” using music notation.

All of the class groups are working really hard and are improving their music skills week on week.
