Mobile Music tutor Laura has been delivering one of our pre-instrumental music programmes to the little musicians in College Gate Montessori. They made great progress in the run up to Christmas. We can’t wait to hear them develop even more this year!

Our ‘Little Musicians’ programme is aimed at children in preschool and after-school clubs. These classes explore the sounds of every-day life, the sounds of the orchestra and the sounds of voices. The children learn action songs and music notation, perform on percussion instruments, and have lots of fun playing a range of musical games.

Laura brought in a Clarinet to show the children how it works, and introduced them to some other instruments of the orchestra.  The class were delighted to hear her play “The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” for them.

Just before the break, our little musicians spent time reviewing the songs they had learned so far.  For composition, they created an energetic percussion piece about Santa’s Workshop.  To re-enforce the steady beat, Laura played “The Little Drummer Boy” for the children while they kept a steady beat using claves.  The children then had their own turn to play percussion instruments such as lento and allegro, as well as piano-forte.

It really is such a pleasure for us to see students so interested and engaged in the music-making process, especially at such a young age!
