Our ‘Learn & Explore’ music programme for primary schools is a great way for children to learn about a variety of music disciplines that they may never have been exposed to previously. Mobile Music tutor Cathy has just finished week 2 of a six-week ‘Learn & Explore’ programme with the students of Garranbane NS.

Learn & Explore

With these music classes, students investigate the importance of percussion and learn about dynamics, tempo, mood, beat and rhythm. Our pupils in Garranbane NS love composing music using set sounds, performing new songs, and playing along to music.

Listening and responding

To practice listening and responding, students studied “The Swan” from The Carnival of the Animals. The children were delighted to have a live performance of the piece by Cathy, who brought in her viola to show the classes.

Chords

Students also practiced their chords by listening to the difference between major and minor chords. The class groups added guitar and uke chords D minor and C major to their riffs.

Adding a rhythm

While learning and exploring percussion, pupils added a short rhythm ‘ti ti ti ti Ta Ta’ on drums. This Kodaly method is a huge hit in the classroom.

Curriculum-based Music Programmes for Schools

Set on the three core strands of the primary school music curriculum, these music classes focus on listening and responding, performing, and composing. Our professional music tutors ensure that the world of music is always explored in a fun, calm and structured manner.
